Excel Academy was created to offer a tuition-free, public middle school alternative to students in the traditionally underserved communities of East Boston and Chelsea. In order to address the severe academic underperformance and low college matriculation rates of students from these communities, the school offers a highly rigorous, college-preparatory curriculum supported by a structured school culture.
Excel Academy Charter School received its charter from the Massachusetts Department of Education in February of 2003, and we opened our doors to our first class of students in September of 2003. Now in our third year of successful operation, we are serving approximately 170 seventh and eighth grade students. We ultimately expect to serve fifth through eighth grade students which will allow us to reach students at a younger age and to educate them for a longer period of time.
Our mission
Excel Academy Charter School prepares middle school students to succeed in high school and college, apply their learning to solve relevant problems, and engage productively in their communities.
