Brehm Preparatory School was established in 1982 through the efforts of Carol Brehm, the mother of a son with a learning disability. Mrs. Brehm was dissatisfied with the educational alternatives available to her child at the time. She was determined to gather together a group of outstanding and innovative educators who could give her child and other children a chance to learn to live their lives to their fullest potential.
A not-for-profit corporation, with a mission to empower students with complex learning disabilities to recognize and optimize their full potential, Brehm Preparatory School and was an early recipient of the U. S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon School of Excellence.
Brehm junior and senior high school programs are accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, the Independent School Association of the Central States and are members of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS). Brehm is also an approved non-public school by the Illinois State Board of Education.
In addition to the junior and senior high school program, Brehm has a post-secondary program, OPTIONS. The OPTIONS program is designed for the high school graduate who will benefit from further development of academic, organizational, social, independent living, and money management skills. OPTIONS students use these skills to support college coursework and/or employment.
